Cathie is 27 years old and has lived in Athens, GA, for about 9 years.  She always loved drawing and can be obsessed with details.  The last few years she has done more drawing on the computer with her tablet than pencil and paper.  She has worked as a graphic artist for the past 4 years and currently works at UberPrints.com as the screen print supervisor.  She graduated from UGA with a bachelor's in printmaking.  She really like socks.  In fact, she has three drawers full of socks organized by style.  She enjoys doing zombie makeup for fun, is an avid lover of candy and has a horrible sense of humor.

Gaige is 32 and has been drawing forever. He also makes plugs for ears and sells them on his small etsy site Plug Life.  His job is a sign painter/artist so he’s just all around a crafty guy.  He says he has a bunch  more sock ideas and was up until 2:30 making the designs he submitted.  Gaige was  the artist that also made the very popular Jellyfish AND the Zombie Foot design!  When asked what he was going to do with his $500 cash prize he said we was going to buy a Powder Skateboard, which is like a snowboard without bindings and pay rent.  Congratulations Gaige and thank you for your awesome designs!

Henry is a 16 year old junior at Wilson High.  There he is a graphic designer for the school paper. He also gets client design work off Craig’s List. Henry used a combo of methods to hone his graphic designs skill.  He took about a half semester of classes and the rest was self-taught through youtube.com instructional videos.  Clever little devil he is. Henry is saving his money to go to college in London and loves it there.  He’ll be going this Thanksgiving to check out some schools.

Peggy works as a graphic designer by day, volunteers in her spare time, and crafts up the wazoo (she’s our new inspiration). What’s more, she has committed to swapping out her car for her two-wheeler, participating in the city’s month-long Bike Commute Challenge. We give her mad props for sticking with the challenge, and we thank her again for her rad, Grand Prize winning submission!

Nichole works for a nonprofit and squeezes in some time for her blog, Lived Up the Stairs, on the side. Upon receiving her cash prize, she told us she was planning on using the mula to vacation to the Grand Canyon. She was certainly excited to come in to the SITM HQ to receive her prize – especially since the only other time she won something like this was in the first grade when she won a pumpkin coloring contest. Glad we could brighten your day, Nichole!

Like Peggy, Mattie is rocking the public transportation and rode on a city bus for an hour and 20 minutes to meet us at the SITM HQ. She picked out a pair of the Mustache socks for her boyfriend, along with the Manatees and Mushrooms for herself. As for the design Mattie submitted… We really hope we can produce it, but there could be some stipulations. Stay tuned; we’re waiting for feedback from our printers. (It’s kinda like checking in with Ma and Pa, if you know what we mean.)

2009 Print & Pattern International Design a Sock Contest
First Place

Italian by blood, Brazilian by birth, after a quick stint in Germany, she fell in love with London and its creative vibe. A design MA later, and lots of stories to tell, she met a creative match - Maxine Stinton - and together they started Luma Creative. They like ideas, stalk Print & Pattern and love socks, so our sock competition was perfect. They are very happy that their sock design was chosen as the winner and love the idea of people wearing their hearts on their heels! Their website is: www.lumacreative.co.uk

Second Place
Alex is a freelance lettering artist. For now most of his work appears on greeting cards. He is one of those anonymous artists who creates those lettering designs with a brush and pen. Turn ons: chocolate, coffee, ice cream, guacamole and chips, "Breaking Bad," "Damages," "Caprica," "Big Love," "US of Tara," "Nurse Jackie." Turn offs: anyone who doesn't use a turn signal or decides to make a right turn from the left lane. He is a hobby letterpress printer. A ruling pen is the answer to interesting line art. He and his partner live in Pasadena where they are slaves to Jimmy, their dog boy.

Third Place

Andrew is a product designer living in the middle of England practicing Tae Kwon Do and knitting madly (it's a strange combination of hobbies for a guy, he knows)- he saw this competition whilst surfing on a grey wet afternoon, and after a bit of PC play- won third prize!
